At an event held in San Francisco, Blackberry announced that it’s going into a new management-services partnership with Samsung Electronics. The new deal is mainly designed to go head to head with Apple’s latest alliance with IBM.
The deal will see Samsung’s Knox service run on Blackberry’s enterprise server BES12 and will also provide enhanced security on Samsung’s Android powered devices. The service will be available early next year.
People probably didn’t expect to see these two companies on the same stage, at least not willingly. We need to be able to provide a breadth of choices and do that with companies of the highest level, said John Sims, head of BlackBerry’s enterprise services business.
BlackBerry’s stock climbed 7 percent on the news, the highest price since June 2013.
