When it comes to inexpensive tablets, consumers really only have the choice of the Amazon Fire tablet, which has gained a lot of traction due to its affordable price ($50) not causing a dent in your wallet. Unfortunately, it was quite limited in its capabilities and now it looks like it’ll be toppled off of its throne (of affordable tablets) by the Nook Tablet 7, a product from Barnes & Noble.
The Nook Tablet 7 also fetches a price of $50, but it differs in term of software. The Fire tablet runs Fire OS, a skinned version of Android that unfortunately won’t let you access the Google Play Store unless you root the device. The Nook Tablet 7, on the other hand, gives you access to the Google Play Store, letting you download any apps you want.
In nearly every other respect, the two devices are similar. Both devices are 7-inches in size, they have the same resolution of 1,024 x 600 with the exact same pixel density of 171 PPI. Both have front and rear cameras (VGA & 2 MP) and they both have 8GB of built-in storage that can be expanded with microSD cards.
Both even have similar battery lives, with 7 hours each. The Nook Tablet 7 is lighter when it comes to weight.
The Nook Tablet 7 will be can be preordered now with sales starting on November 25th.
