Apple have long been famous for the sleek and chic looking devices, from the Macbook Air to the iPad Pro down to the latest iPhones; shiny and chrome was a phrase used when talking about the Cupertino devices long before Hugh Keays-Byrne immortalised it in Mad Max. However it seems the design crew at Apple are breaking out their blunt pencils and crooked rulers in the quest for something invigorating.
While critics and fanboys lauded Apple for releasing a battery case for the iPhone 6 & 6S (something that was needed in this age of overwhelmingly underwhelming battery life) those of us with both eyes open saw a terribly designed case that looked akin to the shape your jeans would take one when you slip your smartphone into your back pocket. While the iPhone is as gorgeous as ever, unfortunately the case it’s being wrapped in is going to garner nothing but giggles and smirking since it looks like there’s a 1st generation iPod spooning your iPhone. With this, no longer will a human have the biggest bump at the baby shower.
However I think there is some reasoning behind this unseeming protuberance: Apple is getting into the fashion industry. But they seem to be going about it in a relatively abstract way; rather than coming up with new designer line of clothing, they seem hell bent on instantly rendering skinny jeans and tights impractical. Perhaps they intend to diminish the stock prices of various fashion outlets to the point where the Cupertino based company can buy them outright? Of course another reason could be power outages affecting the design department at Apple.
However, if we overlook the unpleasant bump (something that might be a tad difficult; we may have to get on our tip toes) we can still recognise Apple as a company that still makes great looking devices such as the iPhone 6S Plus and the iPad Pro. I think we can forgive the Apple design team for turning out a substandard design this one time.
