It appears that aramex is jumping on the crowdsourcing bandwagon and is reportedly testing the new model in a number of countries.
According to reports, the company is in the last phases of testing two new mobile apps for that purpose. When launched, the new model means anyone from the community could become a courier. The crowdsourced couriers will undergo a screening process and receive full training before being officially plugged into the system.
Amarex COO Iyad Kamal said that the new model was not a cost-cutting measure, but rather a way to help the company react and adapt to changes in demand. The roll out is expected to begin in Dubai, Cairo, India, Turkey and South Africa, locations that Kamal says have a good B2C volume.
It will introduce efficiencies, Kamal said. We will be able to deliver more packages on infrastructure we’re setting up. More packages means unit costs will go down.
Aramex is also said to be investing $20 million in the new technology this year.
