Pegatron Technology, Apple’s main supplier in China has issued a statement addressing the accusations of poor working conditions at its plants raised by the BBC.
BBC aired a documentary showing the poor conditions of workers at Apple’s main supplier Pegatron highlighting how workers fell asleep at their posts after long working hours, forced to live in overcrowded conditions, and mistreated by managers.
Pegatron issued a statement (without mentioning Apple) saying it will investigate the matter and that worker safety is its top priority. The statement was filed on December 22 with the Taiwan Stock Exchange where the company is traded.
Few days back, Apple’s CEO said that he is “deeply offended by the suggestion that Apple would break a promise to the workers in our supply chain or mislead our customers in any way.”
