A new report from The New York Times claims that Apple will be paying music labels 0.2 cents for every song streamed during the free trial period of Apple Music launching in July.
According to the report, the amount is the same as what Spotify pays artists for streaming their songs on its free option. It’s also been said that the amount doesn’t include a smaller fee for songwriting rights which Apple is still negotiating with music publishers.
Earlier this week Apple was criticised by Taylor Swift for its decision to not pay artists during the free three-month trial period. The decision was reversed few hours after the open letter went viral.
Apple Music is scheduled to launch on June 30 for $9.99 per month.
