Apple Watch: Which one to buy?

The Apple Watch is nearly here, and with so many choices people will be faced with buying options. To help you out, we’ve complied all the different models, options and pricing (in USD, since there’s no AED pricing yet) under one post. Once UAE and Middle East pricing is confirmed, we’ll update the currency.

Let’s start with the basics: YOU NEED an iPhone (5, 5c, 5s, 6 or 6+) before you take any step forward. If so, then you can carry on reading.

There are three different models of the Apple Watch, but they all feature the same design and a rectangular retina display. On the inside, they all have the same features, storage and connectivity options; the differences are in materials and bands.

So to start with, let’s establish the strap size that suits you best. Each of the three models is available in two different case sizes, 38mm and 42mm (the vertical height size of the case).

The 38mm case is smaller in height and width, but is 0.5mm thicker than the 42mm.
The 38mm is said to have an 18 hours battery life, while the 42mm is said to last for a longer time.

You can check out Apple’s sizing guide here to help you decide better.

Now then, lets get down with it: What are my options?

Apple Watch Sport

First off, Apple Watch Sport. It comes with a fluoroelastomer rubber band, and has an aluminum-alloy body (silver or space gray), ion-X glass and a composite back.

This version is the lightest around (the 38mm Aluminum is 25g which is 15g lighter than the Stainless Steel and 29/30g lighter than the Gold while the 42mm Aluminum is 30g, so 20g lighter than the Stainless Steel and 37/39g lighter than the Gold), and you get access to bright and more colourful strap options (White, blue, green, pink or black with space gray body).

Pricing & options

Silver Aluminium Case with White, Blue, Green, or Pink Sport Band for $349 (38mm) / $399 (42mm)

Space Grey Aluminium Case with Black Sport Band for $349 (38mm) / $399 (42mm)

Apple Watch

Next in line is simply….the “Apple Watch”. This model comes in stainless steel with a sapphire crystal and ceramic back and has two colours options, steel and space black steel. In addition, this version has a variety of pre-packaged or separately-sold bands.

Pricing & options

Stainless Steel Case with White or Black Sport Band for $559 (38mm) / $599 (42mm)

Stainless Steel Case with Black Classic Buckle for $649 (38mm) / $699 (42mm)

Stainless Steel Case with Milanese Loop for $649 (38mm) / $699 (42mm)

Stainless Steel Case with Black, Midnight Blue, Soft Pink, or Brown Modern Buckle for $749 (38mm only)

Stainless Steel Case with Black, Bright Blue, Stone, or Light Brown Leather Loop for $699 (42mm only)

Stainless Steel Case with Link Bracelet for $949 (38mm) / $999 (42mm)

Apple Watch Edition

And finally, the Apple Watch Edition which has an 18-karat gold (rose gold or yellow gold) body with sapphire crystal and ceramic back.

It’s also worthy to note that during the Keynote, Tim Cook specified that this class will be available in extremely limited quantities.

Pricing & options

18-Karat Rose Gold Case with White Sport Band for $10,000 (38mm) / $12,000 (42mm)

18-Karat Yellow Gold Case with Black Sport Band for $10,000 (38mm) / $12,000 (42mm)

18-Karat Rose Gold Case with Rose Gray or Bright Red Modern Buckle for $17,000 (38mm only)

18-Karat Yellow Gold Case with Black or Midnight Blue Classic Buckle for $15,000 (42mm only)

The Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch bands can be purchased separately whether online or in the Apple Store.
The Apple Watch Edition’s bands are not available for sale online but will hopefully be sold in the Stores that sell the Edition class.
Check out the the table below to know more about the case and band combination options:

Apple Watch will launch on Friday, April 24 with pre orders starting on April 10 at 12:01 AM Pacific Time in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the US with more countries to follow later on. The latest reports suggest that the Apple Watch will not be available to walk-in customers without a prior reservation .
