Apple’s history of innovation is defined by its ability to change and create new markets, from the first iPhone, to the introduction of the iPad and Apple Pay. While there are many that would argue that this is no longer the case, Fast Company’s “The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies” has ranked Apple in 2nd place this year, up from 14th last year.
What made Apple jump from 14th to 2nd? Fast Company says it’s iOS 8.
Many of the company’s most meaningful accomplishments don’t make for particularly memorable stagecraft. That’s because they’re about subtle software refinements that make its existing hardware products more useful.
Fast Company also said that the new ranking comes with the fact that iOS 8 is now more “open” to developers to create powerful, intresting apps, as well as HomeKit that leads to more connected homes, improved TouchID, and Apple Pay.
