Apple confirms XcodeGhost malware found in the AppStore

Apple has indeed confirmed that an altered version of Xcode, its development software was infected with malware and published into the App Store. The company said on Sunday it cleaned up the iOS App Store and removed all the affected apps.

The malware was reported by several cyber security firms who reported a malicious program under the name of XcodeGhost embedded in hundreds of apps.

We’ve removed the apps from the App Store that we know have been created with this counterfeit software, Apple’s Christine Monaghan said. We are working with the developers to make sure they’re using the proper version of Xcode to rebuild their apps.

According to Reuters, hackers convinced developers to use an altered version of Apple’s Xcode with most of the affected apps targeting the Chinese market. WeChat was one of many infected apps.
