Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared on the “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and discussed a number of topics including the iPhone 6s, Apple Car, ethics and social responsibility.
The interview started with Colbert showing off a rose gold iPhone 6s and then went on to conduct a short demonstration of the new 3D Touch features.
Colbert also jumped on the statement of Uber’s CEO Travis Kalanick which claimed that Apple had already started work on a self-driving car.
You guys aren’t big on secrets, Colbert said. Tell me about it. come on. The cat’s out of the bag here.
Cook responded with jokes and did not confirm anything related to the rumors.
We look at a number of things along the way and we decide to put our energy into a few of them, Cook said.
Cook also showed dislike at some of the recent movies about Steve Jobs, including the “Steve Jobs” film by Aaron Sorkin and “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine” documentary by Alex Gibney. Cook said that he hasn’t seen the movie but he objects to some of the negativity around Jobs.
I haven’t seen them, but the Steve I knew was an amazing human being. He’s someone that you wanted to do your best work for. He invented things that I think other people could not. He saw things other people could not. He had the uncanny ability to see around the corner, and to describe the future, not an evolutionary future, but a revolutionary future. And he was a joy to work with. And I love him dearly and miss him every day. I think a lot of people are trying to be opportunistic and I hate this. It’s not a great part of our world.
Another topic discussed during the interview was Cook’s focus on charity and social responsibility to future generations.
And just like our products are meant to give tools to everyone to do better things, to empower them to do things they couldn’t do otherwise, we want to leave the world better than we found it. And for us that means focusing on education, it means focusing on the environment, it means focusing on human rights, and so we put a lot of ourselves into these things, Cook said.
