It looks as though Apple and Shazam are heading for a partnership to bring song identification into iOS as a native feature (not requiring any app download), according to this Bloomberg report.
This feature will give iOS the native ability to quickly identify songs playing in the background and allow users to purchase and download the song on the spot. This brings Shazam’s remarkable identification capabilities to all iOS devices regardless of whether the Shazam app is installed.
iTunes and music are core businesses to Apple, to it only makes sense for Apple to facilitate song purchases and downloads by whatever means, especially since the people are downloading less songs through iTunes than before.
