Microsoft’s Nokia unit is working on a Lumia line Android-powered phone @evleaks said on Monday.
Microsoft purchased Nokia’s handset business for around $7.2 billion few months back to try and boost market share for its Windows Phone mobile operating system, where Android currently dominates the market with 81 percent share as of the first quarter, while Windows Phone only had 3 percent share, according to researcher IDC.
A lumia with Google’s Android operating system would seem to go against Microsoft and Nokia’s merger aim, however the benefits of an Android-powered phone could help boost sales also.
It’s still not clear when such a device will be released, or whether Microsoft will actually take this road and embrace Google’s Android .
