We’ve known about Android Nougat for quite some time now, from when Google launched the first developer preview to when the company was crowdsourcing a potential name, which later got revealed to be Nougat. However, the release date has been undisclosed, till now. While Google themselves haven’t officially date stamped the release, the well-known and reliable leaker Evan Blass tweeted the following:
Android 7.0 releases next month, with the 8/5 security patch. Sorry Nexus 5 owners, no Nougat for you 😢
— Evan Blass (@evleaks) July 30, 2016
However, take this information with a pinch of salt as Android releases normally happen during the October and November period. Nevertheless, a release on the 5th of August could be a boon to the OS as many Android users often get the latest version after months due to Android upgrade process. Normally when Google launches a new version of Android various smartphone developers must test it on every device before they can plan and implement a rollout. As a result, users often get the latest version by January or later. An August release would help most Android users get Nougat in 2016 itself.
Unfortunately, in Evan’s tweet, he highlighted the fact that Nexus 5 owners will not be getting the Nougat upgrade. However, the first phone to feature it out-of-the-box will be the upcoming LG V20.
