AMD revealed their Ryzen 7 CPUs a few weeks ago, blowing away their competition with their far more affordable prices, and setting the stage for a much-needed comeback for the underdog processor manufacturer. The Ryzen 7 line was launched on March 2nd and now details of the AMD Ryzen 5 line have been revealed, including the pricing and launch date.
The new mid-tier AMD Ryzen 5 processors will launch with four variants, ranging in price from $169 to $249. As a result, this puts the series directly against Intel’s i5 processors, just as the Ryzen 7 line is matched against the i7 variants.
The AMD Ryzen 5 1600X is the highest performing variant in the line, featuring 6 cores and a total of 12 threads. It has a base clock of 3.5GHz and a Precision Boost of up to 4GHz. It will retail for only $249. Meanwhile, when it comes to 4 cores, AMD have the Ryzen 5 1500X and the Ryzen 5 1400. The latter has a base clock of 3.2 GHz that can be clocked to 3.4GHZ while the former starts at 3.5GHz and can go up to 3.5GHz. The 1500X will retail for $189 while the Ryzen 5 1400 will fetch a price of $169. Overall, the AMD series has most of its Intel counterparts beat, in both clocking rate and price.
Furthermore, AMD plans to have some Ryzen processors available with certain in-house coolers. The Wraith Stealth cooler will be available with the Ryzen 5 1400. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 1500X and 1600 will be available with the Wraith Spire.
All of the AMD Ryzen 5 processors will launch on the 11th of April. The AMD Ryzen 5 1400 will sell for $169, the Ryzen 5 1500X will go for $189, the Ryzen 5 1600 will sell for $219, and consumers can pay $249 for the Ryzen 5 1600X.
