Apple has announced that as of June 1, all new Apple Watch apps will have to be able to run natively on the Watch without the support of an iPhone. Any Watch app that does not comply with the new requirements will be removed from the App Store.
Developers must now build and update their apps to run on watchOS 2 or later to be able to function natively and take advantage of things like WatchConnect and other options that can enable the watch to work without the need for an iPhone. Native watchOS 2 apps will feel and perform much faster with these new requirements.
Apple could also unveil new version of its Watch during this year’s WWDC on June 13th.
