Yesterday Acer hosted its annual Middle East press conference where the Taiwanese company showcased its latest products from over a range of series, from laptops to convertibles to its gaming line of Predator devices.
Daniel Trachino, General Manager of Acer Middle East & Africa, opened the conference by talking about trends in the market, Acer’s penetration in the MENA region over the past couple of years, along with the company’s strategy for the region. In 2015 alone, Acer made over $7.98 billion in revenue, most of it from notebook sales. In 2016, and exclusively to the MENA region, Acer made $190 million with notebooks making the large majority of the sales again. However, when compared to the likes of HP, Lenovo and Dell shipped more units than Acer, though all 3 companies did fall short in growth when compared to 2015. However, Acer did place ahead of both Asus and Apple.
“At Acer, we place innovation at the core of our business ethos. With this in mind, we have made it our mission to expand our product range with industry-first features that deliver on every front – so reliability, performance, design, flexibility and security. From our ultra-slim or budget-friendly convertible notebooks to additions to our award-winning Predator gaming line, we made sure to offer a comprehensive lineup that provides something for everyone.”
– Daniel Trachino, General Manager, Acer Middle East and North Africa.
John Miedema, Director of Product Management for Acer EMEA and Joumana Karam, Product Business Unit Head for Acer Middle East & Africa, then took to the stage to highlight the company’s four ranges of laptops and convertibles.
The Aspire series of laptops is what most users are familiar with; they utilize the clamshell form factor and are designed for consumers who are more practical and less tech savvy. Meanwhile, the Swift series of laptops are similar, except for the fact that they’re ultra-slim. Acer’s Spin series of convertible laptops are its next line of portable PCs, designed to be versatile and adaptable to a wide variety of activities. And lastly, the Swift series, Acer’s 2-in-1 range of detachable products.
Meanwhile, Acer has swept the planet when it comes to its Predator series of gaming products, making leaps and bounds over the past year, since its inception. To bring gameplay immersion to the next level, the predator series has recently undergone GPU refreshes to its Predator 15 and 17 gaming notebooks. The new versions feature GPUs with the all-new NVIDIA Pascal architecture, with up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics and run on Windows 10. This brings the notebooks in line with Acer’s push to have the Predator series ready to power the latest VR devices.
