Microsoft may have released its foldable keyboard, but LG is looking to 1-up Microsoft with the introduction of the Rolly Keyboard – LG’s industry-first solid, rollable keyboard.
If that’s a bit confusing, it’s because it is. You see, LG has developed a mechanism where the keyboard can fold between the keyboard rows – compared to Microsoft’s which folds in the vertical centre – which will allow you to roll the keyboard into a tube that you can place in your bag or take with you. Since it is made of plastic, you get the tactile feedback that’s missing in the current silicon-based roll keyboards. The keyboard is powered by a single AAA battery with an average lifetime of 3 months, and connects up to two devices via Bluetooth with easy toggling between the two.
“The goal was to create a product that could add more value to LG smartphones and tablets at the same time offering a unique design proposition that hadn’t been explored before.” – Seo Young-jae, VP of Innovative Personal Devices
The Rolly Keyboard will make its debut in September in the United States, followed by key markets in Europe, Latin America and Asia in the fourth quarter.
