Japan has always been a country where polar opposites clash on a daily basis to create a fusion of culture and innovation that’s hard to see anywhere else in the world; a flash drive manufacturing plant can have a traditional sword smith down the road folding sheets of metal using nothing but a forge and a hammer. But perhaps nothing captures this melding of both the future and the past than a live ballet recital performed by 20 LED lit drones in front of Mt. Fuji.
20 Sky Magic drones which were encrusted with a total of 16,500 LED bulbs delicately swayed and maneuvered through the air to the time of the notes emitting from the Shamisens, the Japanese traditional guitars. It’s a jaw dropping spectacle, one that was recorded and produced by MicroAd. But if you think these drones were just following a preset flight path, you’re mistaken: they were each controlled by a DMX512 controller, which was also used to control the visual and audio aspects.
We’ve seen drones take iconic shots of the landscape, we’ve seen them being used in the production process of a movie, we’ve seen them race across a track and now we’ve seen them dance. Who ever said robots are bad?
