Google has announced a complete redesign of the YouTube Kids mobile app, part of its ongoing “design modernization efforts.” The update aims to provide a refreshed, cleaner, and smoother viewing experience for families on mobile devices. The changes do not currently affect the web or TV versions of YouTube Kids.
The redesign includes several key changes:
- New Visuals: The app features new colors and icons while maintaining the existing content, parental controls, and safety features.
- Flexible Orientation: The app now supports both vertical and horizontal viewing, making it easier to browse content regardless of device orientation.
- Redesigned Categories: Video categories at the top of the homescreen have been revamped, allowing for easier content discovery by topic (e.g., learning, gaming, music).
- New Navigation Bar: A new bottom navigation bar provides quick access to Home, Search, “Your Stuff,” and user profiles.
- “Your Stuff” Page: A dedicated “Your Stuff” page simplifies access to “Watch it Again,” Shared, and Downloaded content.

These changes are rolling out to both iOS and Android versions of the app over the next few weeks. While the redesign is described as a “traditional” update rather than a dramatic visual overhaul, it represents a significant improvement to the app’s look and feel, incorporating several highly requested features.
