Xiaomi has begun teasing the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, offering the first official look at the flagship devices ahead of their expected launch later this month in China. The most notable design change is the introduction of a secondary display on the back, which replaces the traditional rear camera housing entirely.
This secondary screen is designed to go beyond simple notifications. Xiaomi says it will handle functions such as multitasking, time display, AI-driven interactions, and cross-device operations, building on the experimental mini display first introduced in the Mi 11 Ultra. The rear camera system itself remains integrated into the new design, featuring three lenses: two large vertically aligned sensors and a smaller third sensor with a flash. Leica branding is also present, continuing the company’s ongoing collaboration in imaging.

In terms of positioning, Xiaomi has confirmed that the 17 Pro will be the more compact flagship, while the 17 Pro Max will serve as the larger variant. Both will sit above the standard Xiaomi 17 in the lineup. Early leaks suggest the 17 Pro will feature a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a 6,300mAh battery supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The Pro Max is expected to step up to a 6.8-inch 2K display with a reported 94 percent screen-to-body ratio, backed by a 7,500mAh battery.
All three models in the series are set to launch with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, positioning Xiaomi directly against competitors like the Honor Magic 8 series, OnePlus 15, iQOO 15, and Realme GT 8 Pro, all of which are slated for October releases in China.
While Xiaomi has yet to confirm the exact launch date, reports point to September 26 for the unveiling. With the addition of the secondary rear display, the company is betting on a feature that blends utility with design differentiation—a move that could help distinguish the Xiaomi 17 series in a crowded high-end Android market.
