X extends passkey logins to Android, strengthening account security

X, the social media giant formerly known as Twitter, has announced that its Android app now supports passkey logins. This security feature, already available for iOS users since earlier this year, offers a significant improvement over traditional passwords, making it harder for hackers to compromise your account.

Passkeys are a relatively new security measure gaining traction across various tech platforms. Essentially, a passkey is a unique digital credential tied to your device, replacing the need for a memorizable password. This approach is considered far more secure as it’s virtually impossible to guess or steal.

To enable a passkey on X, you’ll still need to create an account with a traditional password. However, once you’re in the app, you can activate the passkey feature under the “Additional password protection” option in the Security tab.

In addition to this, X also recently added the ability to sort replies by relevance, recency, or popularity. This change is designed to make it easier for users to see the comments they’re most interested in, rather than having blue check replies automatically prioritized at the top.
