Meta is testing multi-account support in WhatsApp for iPhone, a long-requested feature that removes the need for workarounds like using WhatsApp Business or maintaining a second device. The update is available to a limited group of TestFlight beta users, marking the first time the iOS app has offered a native way to switch between accounts in one place.
Beta testers are seeing a new section called Account List within the settings menu, or a small button next to the QR code icon on the main screen. From there, users can add a second account directly through the app. Early testing indicates WhatsApp currently supports up to two accounts, whether they’re brand new, previously used on another phone, or tied to a WhatsApp Business profile.
The setup process is flexible. Users can register a new number that has never been on WhatsApp, link an existing account, or connect a companion account by scanning a QR code from another device. Once linked, the secondary account syncs messages, settings, and basic data automatically. This move aligns with WhatsApp’s broader shift toward more adaptable identity options, such as its upcoming support for usernames that go beyond phone numbers.
Each account keeps its own preferences — chat history, backup settings, notification tones, and other per-account configurations remain separate. Notifications will clearly indicate which account received the message, which helps avoid confusion that often comes with juggling multiple numbers for work, personal use, or regional lines.
Although WhatsApp hasn’t announced a public release date, the feature appears to be in a mature testing phase. Multi-account support is one of the most widely requested capabilities on iPhone, especially as competing messaging platforms have normalised multi-profile setups. With this beta now rolling out, a broader release seems likely in the near future.
