WhatsApp has officially launched its Apple Watch app, giving users access to core messaging and calling features directly from their wrist. Following a brief beta testing phase via TestFlight, the app is now widely available on Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models running watchOS 10 or later.
The new version allows users to send and read full messages, respond with emojis, record and send voice notes, and view call notifications — all without needing to pull out their iPhone. Meta says the app has been designed to make common interactions faster and more convenient, bringing many of the smartphone experience’s essentials to the watch interface.
Key functions include:
- Call notifications: Users can see who’s calling through WhatsApp without checking their phone.
- Full message view: Complete messages, including longer text threads, can be read directly on the Apple Watch display.
- Message composition: You can write and send replies, either manually or through dictation.
- Voice messages: Quick voice recordings can be sent straight from the watch’s microphone.
- Reactions and stickers: Users can react with emojis and view clearer images and stickers within chats.
- Chat history access: A greater portion of message history is visible, allowing for smoother conversation continuity.
To use the app, an iPhone with the latest WhatsApp version installed is required, as the watch app connects through the paired device. Once set up, notifications and messages sync seamlessly between iPhone and Apple Watch, enabling users to stay connected even when their phone isn’t immediately accessible.
The launch marks another step in Meta’s effort to extend WhatsApp’s reach across devices and improve accessibility for its global user base. With messaging now integrated into the Apple Watch ecosystem, WhatsApp joins other major communication platforms like Telegram and Messenger that already offer smartwatch compatibility.
