WhatsApp for iOS now lets you share to status directly from the share sheet

WhatsApp has rolled out an update for iOS that makes sharing media to status updates much faster and more intuitive. With version 25.22.83, users can now post photos, videos, and other content directly from the iOS share sheet to their WhatsApp status, removing the need to open the app and navigate through multiple menus.

Previously, iPhone users had to select contacts first before accessing the status option, an extra step that slowed down what is designed to be a quick, lightweight sharing feature. Now, a “My Status” shortcut appears in the share menu, sending media straight into the WhatsApp status editor with one tap. From there, users can still add text, emojis, drawings, or other edits before publishing.

The feature has been available on Android for some time, and this update finally brings parity to iOS. As with most WhatsApp changes, the rollout is phased, meaning some users may receive the option immediately while others will see it appear in the coming weeks. A staggered release allows Meta to monitor for bugs before enabling it universally.

Beyond convenience, the change could encourage more frequent status updates on iOS, aligning with WhatsApp’s strategy of boosting engagement through ephemeral, story-like features. While Status has never rivaled Instagram Stories or Snapchat in cultural impact, it remains widely used in regions where WhatsApp is the dominant messaging app.

For iPhone users, the update is small but meaningful: fewer taps, a smoother workflow, and a status-sharing experience that now matches Android. Over time, those incremental improvements matter—particularly for a platform where simplicity and speed are key reasons people choose it.
