The WD Blue SN5100 NVMe SSD from Sandisk arrives as part of the company’s latest push to meet the growing demands of AI-assisted workflows and high-volume content creation. Built on PCIe Gen 4.0, the drive promises read speeds up to 7,100 MB/s in the 1TB and 2TB versions, which marks an almost 30 percent bump over the previous generation. That performance is aimed at users dealing with heavy editing, rendering, and the transfer of large video or image files, where time savings translate directly into productivity gains.
At the core of the drive is Sandisk’s BiCS8 QLC NAND technology, paired with CMOS Bonded to Array (CBA) design. The use of quad-level cell storage allows for higher densities, enabling the line to scale up to 4TB while still offering consumer-level affordability compared with enterprise drives. While QLC NAND has historically carried trade-offs in endurance compared to TLC alternatives, it is generally sufficient for creative professionals who prioritize high-capacity storage and sustained transfer speeds for large media projects. For those concerned about longevity, the SSD ships with a five-year limited warranty.
The WD Blue SN5100 also incorporates the company’s nCache 4.0 technology, which is intended to smooth out performance when copying massive project folders or handling multiple applications at once. Although cache-based speed boosts can vary in real-world use, especially once the SLC buffer is saturated, the feature should help improve responsiveness for day-to-day creative work.
The drive will be available in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models, with the largest configuration expected to ship in October. Positioned for both laptop and desktop users, it is suited for system upgrades or new workstation builds where high throughput and ample capacity are priorities.
Beyond the technical specs, this release also marks one of the first Sandisk storage products to feature the company’s updated logo and refreshed packaging—a signal of Western Digital’s continued effort to unify its consumer and professional branding. For users in the Middle East, the WD Blue SN5100 NVMe SSD is scheduled to hit shelves starting in October.
