VSCO debuts new ‘Capture’ camera app with real-time film presets on iOS

VSCO has launched a new standalone camera app designed for photographers who want more control and creative input at the moment of capture. The app, simply called VSCO Capture, is now available for free on iOS and brings live previews of VSCO’s signature film-style presets directly to the camera interface—no post-shot guessing required.

With over 50 built-in presets and the ability to preview them in real time, VSCO Capture offers a streamlined alternative for mobile photographers tired of the back-and-forth between shooting and editing. The app also provides full manual controls, including adjustable shutter speed and exposure settings, allowing for more nuanced shooting in different lighting conditions.

Designed to reduce “editing fatigue,” as VSCO CEO Eric Wittman puts it, the app gives users more agency up front. “VSCO Capture is a direct response to our community’s desire to get closer to the lens,” Wittman said, highlighting the push toward a more intuitive and expressive mobile photography experience.

Photos captured in VSCO Capture retain the original image data thanks to non-destructive editing, meaning filters and presets can be swapped or adjusted even after the shot is taken. The app also supports advanced formats like RAW and Apple’s ProRAW, making it useful for users looking to edit with more precision later in VSCO’s main editing app.

Captured images automatically sync with the core VSCO app, where users can apply additional adjustments or share their work with the broader community. While the app is currently only available on iOS, it could signal the beginning of a more segmented but specialized ecosystem for VSCO users, especially those leaning into creative mobile photography workflows.

Whether you’re a casual smartphone shooter or a more advanced user looking to emulate film aesthetics without third-party workarounds, VSCO Capture aims to fill a niche—giving users a way to shoot, stylize, and edit with one consistent creative language.
