Vivo announces Vision Exploration Edition MR headset with eye-tracking and hand gestures

Vivo has confirmed that its new mixed reality device, the Vivo Vision Exploration Edition, will be officially unveiled in China on August 21. Positioned as a mixed reality (MR) headset rather than a traditional VR device, the Vivo Vision is designed to blend real-world imagery with digital overlays for an immersive, interactive experience.

Weighing approximately 380 grams, the headset is significantly lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro (650 grams) and comparable in weight to Apple’s AirPods Max headphones. This reduced weight is expected to improve comfort during extended use by easing pressure on the nose and head.

The front panel incorporates at least six cameras or sensors, enabling accurate real-world passthrough and improved spatial awareness. Under the hood, the Vivo Vision is powered by a Qualcomm processor, positioning it in the high-end MR device category. Notably, it includes both eye-tracking and hand gesture control — features still rare among mixed reality headsets.

Vivo has also optimized the Vision for integration with its smartphone lineup, particularly the upcoming Vivo X200 Ultra. Panoramic shots taken on the X200 Ultra can be transformed into spatial video content for viewing through the headset, expanding its role beyond gaming and productivity into creative media consumption.

As an “exploration edition”, the Vivo Vision will not be commercially available in 2025. Instead, interested users will be able to register for in-store trial sessions after launch, providing feedback that will inform future consumer-ready models.
