Twitch rolls out Arabic RTL interface, expands access across MENA

Twitch has launched a right-to-left (RTL) Arabic interface across its web and mobile platforms, expanding accessibility for Arabic-speaking users worldwide. The update, available as of July 14, offers a fully localized experience that enables native navigation in Arabic, marking a tangible step in Twitch’s broader strategy to localize services and support diverse communities.

Users can now activate Arabic language settings globally via account preferences or through device language configurations. The RTL experience is designed to cater to both streamers and viewers, aligning with Twitch’s aim to reduce friction and improve usability in markets where Arabic is the primary language. Additional Arabic-language support—such as localized notifications and emails—is expected to roll out later this year.

While the move is positioned as a user experience upgrade, it also reflects Twitch’s recognition of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) as a region of growing strategic importance. In 2024 alone, audiences in MENA logged over 209 million hours watching Twitch content, with top categories including Just Chatting, Valorant, League of Legends, Counter-Strike, and Overwatch 2. These numbers point to an increasingly engaged audience spanning both esports and casual streaming content.

Arabic-speaking streamers have been steadily growing their presence on the platform, with many calling for tools that better reflect their linguistic and cultural needs. The RTL interface addresses a longstanding gap and makes the platform more approachable for first-time users. It also supports Twitch’s goal of nurturing grassroots content creation in underrepresented regions.

Twitch’s update arrives amid broader growth in the region’s gaming sector. The MENA gaming economy is projected to surpass $6 billion by 2027, fueled by youthful demographics, rising esports participation, and digital infrastructure investments tied to national innovation strategies. In this context, platforms like Twitch are positioning themselves as both entertainment providers and enablers of local creative economies.

While Twitch remains the leading live-streaming platform globally—garnering over 655 million hours watched in 2024 and commanding more than 60% of the global market share—the company continues to face pressure to balance expansion with inclusion. The rollout of Arabic RTL reflects a recognition that community growth doesn’t happen without meaningful cultural investment.

For streamers like Saudi Arabia–based Twitch Partner Meshael MR, the change signals a step in the right direction. “This update makes Twitch feel more like home,” she noted, adding that the localized interface helps lower the entry barrier for new Arabic-speaking streamers.

As Twitch looks to strengthen its foothold in emerging markets, features like Arabic RTL underscore a long-term strategy that goes beyond simple translation. It’s about adapting the platform to meet the realities of its global audience—one language, and one community, at a time.
