Twelve South introduces a modular Qi2 charging tray at CES 2026

At CES 2026, Twelve South introduced a new take on the familiar charging tray with the announcement of its Valet modular wireless charging system. The product is positioned as a hybrid between a desk organizer and a modern charging solution, combining wireless power delivery with materials and design cues typically associated with premium accessories rather than consumer electronics.

At its core, the Valet tray supports Qi2 wireless charging, delivering up to 15W of power to compatible smartphones, including recent iPhone models and other Qi2-enabled devices. The charging surface is integrated directly into the tray, allowing users to place a phone down naturally rather than aligning it with a visible stand or puck. A small status indicator confirms when charging is active, aiming to reduce the guesswork that often comes with wireless charging setups.

Charging, however, is only part of the pitch. Twelve South has leaned heavily into the idea of Valet as a landing zone for everyday items. The tray is lined with leather and sized to hold common carry items such as keys, wallets, earbuds, or watches, positioning it as something meant to live permanently on a desk, dresser, or entryway table. The overall aesthetic prioritizes subtlety, with no prominent branding or aggressive visual elements.

For additional flexibility, the Valet includes a USB-C port capable of delivering up to 15W of wired charging. This allows users to power a second device, such as wireless earbuds or a smartwatch, without adding another charger to the mix. An integrated cable management system keeps cords tucked away, reinforcing the product’s focus on reducing visual clutter.

Structurally, the tray is built around a weighted zinc alloy base designed to keep it firmly in place during daily use. This added weight helps prevent the tray from sliding when devices are placed or removed, a small but practical consideration for something intended to be handled frequently.

One of the more distinctive aspects of the Valet system is its modular design. While the tray itself comes standard in black or taupe leather, the outer frame can be removed and replaced with alternate inserts. Available finishes include black, brown, ecru, and taupe, allowing users to adjust the look without replacing the entire unit. This approach suggests Twelve South is treating the Valet more like a long-term desk accessory than a disposable tech product.

That positioning is reflected in the price. The Valet tray is available for preorder in the United States at $179.99, with official sales beginning January 15. International availability has been confirmed for 2026, though specific regions and timelines have not yet been announced.

As wireless charging becomes increasingly standard, products like the Valet highlight a shift toward blending power delivery with furniture-like design. Whether that combination justifies the premium price will depend on how much value users place on materials, aesthetics, and consolidation of everyday clutter into a single object.
