Truecaller has announced that it now counts over 100 million monthly active users across the Middle East and Africa (MEA), marking a reported 19% year-on-year increase. The figure covers both Android and iOS users and reflects the company’s continued presence in regions where mobile numbers remain a primary form of identification.
Some of Truecaller’s largest MEA markets include Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, Ghana, and Jordan, where the service is installed on an estimated 20% to 45% of connected smartphones. The app is widely used for caller ID, spam detection, and blocking unwanted communications—a need that has grown alongside mobile adoption in these countries.
In a statement, CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala linked the growth to rising smartphone penetration and mobile data usage, describing the region as “mobile-first” and emphasizing the company’s intention to expand partnerships and operations there. While the comments reflect confidence in long-term market potential, they also highlight how Truecaller’s adoption in MEA mirrors its earlier growth in India, another market where unsolicited calls and messages remain common.
The milestone reinforces Truecaller’s role as one of the better-known tools for managing unwanted calls in emerging mobile markets, though it also comes amid ongoing debates about privacy, data handling, and the broader role of caller ID apps in the mobile ecosystem. With MEA’s smartphone user base expected to grow further in the coming years, the challenge for Truecaller will be to maintain this momentum while addressing those concerns.
