TikTok is expanding its role in music discovery by introducing a feature that allows Apple Music subscribers to play entire songs directly within the app. The update, called Play Full Song, connects a user’s Apple Music subscription to TikTok so full-length tracks can be streamed without leaving the platform.
The change reflects a growing overlap between social media and music streaming services. For years, TikTok has played a significant role in shaping music trends, often pushing unknown tracks into viral territory within days. However, listening to the full version of a song typically required users to leave the app and open a separate streaming service. With the Play Full Song option, Apple Music subscribers can now remain inside TikTok while playing the complete track.
The feature appears as a button that links TikTok to an existing Apple Music account. Once connected, users can launch a built-in music player directly from the video interface. The player allows listeners to view album artwork, scrub through the track timeline, and play the song in its entirety rather than just the short clip attached to a video.
Functionality inside the TikTok player remains relatively limited compared with a dedicated streaming app, but it still offers a few practical tools. Users can save songs to their Apple Music library or playlists, making it easier to revisit tracks later through the full streaming service. This approach keeps the main listening experience tied to Apple Music while letting TikTok act as a discovery and preview environment.
Previously, TikTok offered a feature called Add to Music App, which allowed users to save songs they discovered in videos to various streaming services. That option remains available across multiple platforms, including Apple Music and others. The new Play Full Song feature goes a step further by letting users hear the complete track instantly instead of manually opening another app to finish listening.
The collaboration also introduces a second feature called Listening Party, designed as a social listening experience inside TikTok. The tool allows artists to host real-time sessions where fans can listen to songs together while interacting through comments or chat. These events could be used for album launches, single releases, or tour announcements, giving artists another way to engage with audiences directly within the social platform.
Live listening events have become more common across streaming and social platforms in recent years, especially as artists look for new ways to promote music in crowded digital spaces. TikTok’s Listening Party feature attempts to combine real-time fan interaction with music streaming in a single environment rather than splitting those activities across separate apps.
The broader context behind the update is TikTok’s growing influence in the music industry. The platform has become one of the primary channels for discovering new artists and songs, particularly among younger audiences. Short clips of songs frequently gain traction on the platform before climbing streaming charts, making TikTok a key promotional tool for record labels and independent artists alike.
By allowing Apple Music subscribers to play full songs without leaving the app, TikTok reduces the friction between discovering a track and actually listening to it. For streaming services, these integrations also create new opportunities to convert casual listeners into subscribers.
TikTok says both Play Full Song and Listening Party will begin rolling out gradually to users over the coming weeks.
