When you’re new to coding, it can be hard to know where to start, and it’s easy to get sucked down paths that could waste a whole lot of your time and effort. Luckily, you don’t need a degree from a top university to start learning. With technology constantly changing, it’s almost better to do your own research and start.

There are programs such as Swift Playground available on the App Store that give you the tools and platform to learn, create and bring your app ideas to life. It’s the perfect app to get you, your kids, and people of all ages ready for tomorrow’s future.

Here’s how you can learn how to code in just seven days:

  1. Day one: Download Swift Playgrounds. Learn serious code on your iPad, in a seriously fun way. Start by downloading the ‘Swift Playgrounds’ app that makes the experience interactive and fun, especially if you’re just starting out. If you didn’t know, Swift is a powerful programming language used by the pros today to build some of the most popular apps including LinkedIn, Duolingo, and Airbnb.
  2. Day two: Learn by example. Register and attend the ‘How to: get started with coding’ session at Apple Dubai Mall. The 30 mins session gives you a brief introduction into coding and the Swift Playgrounds app to kick start your journey to becoming a smart coder.
  3. Day three: Get started with the basics. The app comes with a complete set of curated lessons including the basics in “Fundamentals of Swift” using real code to guide a character through a 3D world. The library of lessons will teach you core coding concepts, such as issuing commands, creating functions, performing loops and using conditional code and variables.
  4. Day four and five: Move up to more challenging concepts.Congratulations, you’ve graduated your first coding sessions. Now you need to take the “Beyond the basics” course and use the puzzles the app has set to master more advanced concepts. Continue to build on what you are learning and create even more complex code.
  5. Day six and seven: The best way to learn, is to practice, practice, practice. Swift Playgrounds comes with a number of build-in templates to help aspiring developers such as yourself to express your creativity. So why not take it for a spin? Download Swift Playground here.
