Telegram has rolled out a redesigned interface for both Android and iOS, alongside a set of administrative and developer-focused updates that affect how groups and in-app collectibles are managed. The Telegram Android update introduces a reworked layout aimed at streamlining navigation, while the iOS version receives interface refinements and new shortcuts tailored to Apple devices.
On Android, the most visible change is the addition of a bottom navigation bar. This new layout allows users to switch quickly between Chats, Settings, Profile, and other key sections without relying on layered menus. According to Telegram, the interface code has also been rebuilt to improve responsiveness and overall efficiency. While visual changes tend to draw the most attention, performance optimizations often have a more lasting impact, particularly for users managing large numbers of chats or media-heavy conversations. A new Power Saving menu under Settings offers controls intended to balance performance and battery consumption.
For iOS users, the Telegram iPhone update focuses on media and interaction improvements. The redesigned media viewer aims to make browsing photos and videos more fluid, while sticker and emoji packs now include updated preview panels. Context menus in user profiles and message selections have also been refreshed. On iPad, Telegram has added a new keyboard shortcut — Command + Enter — to send messages, aligning the app more closely with desktop-style workflows and improving efficiency for users who rely on external keyboards.
Group management is another area seeing structural change. Telegram will now automatically transfer group ownership to one of the administrators if the original owner leaves the chat and does not manually assign a successor within a week. A confirmation window appears when an owner exits a group, allowing them to designate a new owner before departure. Ownership can also be transferred proactively without leaving the group. The update addresses a longstanding issue in large communities where inactive or departing owners could leave groups in administrative limbo.
Telegram has also expanded its in-app digital collectibles system. A new crafting feature allows users to combine up to four collectible gifts to generate higher-tier items labeled Uncommon, Rare, Epic, or Legendary. Adding more gifts increases the probability of a successful upgrade, and combining items with similar attributes raises the likelihood that those traits carry over into the final version. These collectibles can be traded through Telegram’s Gift Marketplace, further formalizing an economy around digital items within the platform.
For bot developers, the update introduces the option to add emojis and color customization to buttons. This small but practical change allows developers to design clearer, more visually distinct interfaces for automated services and interactive bots.
As with most platform updates, access to these features requires installing the latest version of Telegram from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. The combined changes suggest Telegram is continuing to refine both usability and platform governance while expanding its ecosystem beyond basic messaging.
