Every September two new apples fall from the tree of Tim Cook, but this generation we had three. An iPhone 8, 8 Plus and a newly announced iPhone X which is meant to be a technology demonstrator of new technologies apple would be applying, but not all the apples were designed in proportion.
FaceID
At first glance the devices seem comparable in terms of its size but Cupertino has decided to give the X a bit more of a kick to justify the spiff price. The first and significant distinction which can be made is the use of the much more secure FaceID in the X which is not making an appearance in the 8 (or the 8 plus). This is very likely due to the X being an “Anniversary edition device“ & a technology demonstrator rather than a feature ready for the rest of the seed.
Animoji

Animoji is another feature which did not make an appearance in the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. This was due to the devices not having the true depth module. My speculation would lead me to believe that the technology is not mature enough to fit the price point of the 8; Thus apple may have refrained from going all out this year. Let’s hope it’s going to be part of the next generation.
Display
Next is the bright new display, which Apple has cleverly called a Super Retina display. It measures 5.8-inch diagonally and has a 2,436-by-1,135 pixel resolution. This is a new OLED display which according to apple is “The first OLED screen that rises to the standards of iPhone, with accurate, stunning colors, true blacks, high brightness, and a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio.”
The Super Retina display again, does not make an appearance in the 8 or 8 plus however this is confirmed to be due to two reasons. First, due to limited supply of the iPhone standard display. Second is due to the economies of scale which make these displays not only limited in quantity, but also costing a premium, as only two Samsung & LG have the expertise to make these displays.

The Future (our wish list)
(Image:Ben Geskin/Twitter)
Regardless of the aspects explored, the latest generation of Apple iPhones, are still great products for the consumer regardless of the missing features in the 8 & 8 plus. We look forward to what the next generation holds for us, hungry users. We can only speculate at this point on to what the some of the new ages hold. However, we can be wishfull for the the following :
The next generation will feature iPhone X successors & One new model.
The Two successors will be OLED based on 5.8 and 6.5-inch displays, and the new 6.1 inch iPhone will be an LCD based model.
A dual sim variant to complement the existing single sim models.
FaceID will be part of the Super Retina models however it is a possibility that it does not come to the Retina-based model.
ProMotion, an Ipad Pro feature which may make an appearance, giving the iPhone 120hz capabilities from its current 60hz.
Larger batteries on the OLED models, up to 25% larger than the 8 Plus.
A fast charger included in the box to charge the improved batteries faster.
Ok so these are just wishes, but hey doesn’t hurt to dream.
What we know for sure :
A confirmed A12 bionic chip with performance improvements over the A11 series.
iOS 12, with better performance for all ios devices running IOS 11.
Second generation FaceID which will be faster.
M12 Apple motion coprocessors.

But when ?
We hope that our wishes come true this September when Apple will unveil their next generation of iPhones as they traditionally have. The Apple event will take place at the Steve-Jobs auditorium within the first two weeks of September. This can be confirmed by asking Siri “Hey Siri, Give us a hint.”; closer to the date.
