Spotify’s revamped Apple TV app adds podcast and music videos

Spotify has launched a major redesign of its Apple TV app, bringing several long-requested features and a refreshed interface aimed at aligning the tvOS experience with its mobile and desktop counterparts. The update, now live in the App Store, introduces support for podcast videos, music videos, and more interactive playback controls, expanding how users engage with Spotify’s library from the living room.

The new Spotify app for Apple TV allows users to manage their playback queue, view synchronized lyrics, and control their listening experience through Spotify Connect — including the ability to manage playback remotely from another device. The app also integrates Spotify DJ, the company’s AI-powered music recommendation assistant, giving listeners personalized playlists and commentary without switching platforms.

A notable addition is video playback support. Users can now watch podcast videos directly through Apple TV and adjust playback speed — a feature already popular on mobile and desktop. Spotify says the timing coincides with its broader push into video content, including the planned debut of select podcast videos on Netflix in early 2026.

For Premium subscribers in one of Spotify’s 97 beta markets, the update also introduces the ability to “switch to video” on supported songs, offering official music videos alongside audio tracks. This feature mirrors the company’s gradual rollout of video-based experiences intended to compete with YouTube Music and Apple Music’s video offerings.

Beyond the new features, Spotify has completely rebuilt the tvOS interface, emphasizing smoother navigation and visual consistency across devices. The layout prioritizes clarity and usability on large screens while maintaining access to familiar playlists, recommendations, and playback settings.

The redesign marks Spotify’s most significant update for Apple TV in years, positioning the app as a more versatile multimedia hub rather than a simple streaming interface. As Spotify continues expanding into video and AI-driven recommendations, the Apple TV app now reflects the company’s broader strategy of merging music, podcasts, and visual experiences under one unified platform.
