Spotify has introduced a new feature called SongDNA in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, aiming to give listeners more context about how music is made and who contributes to it. The feature, currently in beta for Premium users, focuses on mapping out the network of collaborators, influences, and source material behind individual tracks.
SongDNA works from within the Spotify mobile app. While playing a track, users can scroll down from the Now Playing screen to access a dedicated section that highlights key contributors such as songwriters, producers, and engineers. It also surfaces additional layers of information, including samples, interpolations, and cover versions linked to the track. From there, listeners can move between related artists and works, building a broader picture of how songs connect across genres and time periods.

This approach shifts music discovery away from algorithm-driven recommendations alone and toward a more research-oriented experience. Instead of simply being served similar tracks, users are encouraged to follow creative links between artists. For example, connections between artists with very different styles can be traced through shared collaborators or reused musical elements, offering a clearer view of how influence moves through the industry.
The feature also introduces a more visible role for behind-the-scenes contributors. Songwriters, producers, and other creatives often receive limited attention in mainstream streaming interfaces. By placing these roles alongside the main artist, SongDNA attempts to address that imbalance, though its effectiveness will likely depend on how consistently data is maintained and updated.
Spotify says the information shown in SongDNA comes from a mix of artist-provided data and community contributions. Artist and label teams can manage and verify these details through Spotify for Artists, which suggests an effort to maintain some level of accuracy while still scaling the feature across a large catalog. However, as with any system that relies partly on community input, the quality and completeness of the data may vary between tracks.

SongDNA builds on existing features like About the Song but takes a broader, more interconnected approach. Rather than focusing on a single narrative behind a track, it presents music as part of a larger ecosystem of influences and collaborations. This may appeal to listeners who want more depth from their streaming experience, though casual users may find it less immediately relevant.
The feature is now available to Premium Lite, Premium Standard, and Premium Platinum users in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with a wider rollout expected across other markets. As Spotify continues to refine its discovery tools, SongDNA represents a move toward more transparent and detailed music metadata, rather than purely engagement-driven listening.
