According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Spotify is gearing up to finally launch its high-fidelity audio tier as a premium add-on. But hold onto your wallets, audiophiles, because it’ll cost you an extra $5 on top of your existing subscription.
The good news is that the new tier will reportedly include tools for playlist creation and music library management, making it easier to curate the perfect soundtrack for any occasion. You’ll be able to create custom playlists for specific activities, dates, and even times of the year, adding a whole new dimension to your listening experience.
The HiFi audio feature was initially promised back in 2021, but it’s been a long road filled with rumors and speculation ever since. Last year, Bloomberg revealed that Spotify was working on a higher-priced “Supremium” HiFi plan, and The Wall Street Journal suggested the inclusion of a remix feature for speed-up tracks.
Leaked code snippets have also hinted at the possibility of 24-bit lossless audio, AI-powered playlist creation, and mood-based song filtering. This year, Reddit users even spotted code mentioning the arrival of lossless audio and leaked UI elements referencing high bitrates and the FLAC audio format.
While Spotify remains tight-lipped about these rumors, their spokesperson did acknowledge that they’re constantly exploring ways to improve their product offerings. So, while we can’t confirm anything just yet, it’s safe to say that a HiFi audio upgrade might be on the horizon for Spotify users.
Stay tuned for more updates as we eagerly await the official announcement from Spotify.
