Spotify expands Prompted Playlist beta to more countries

Spotify’s Prompted Playlist feature is expanding to more markets, with the company confirming availability for Premium subscribers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden. The feature, still labeled as a beta, allows users to generate playlists by typing natural language prompts rather than manually selecting tracks or relying solely on pre-built recommendations.

First introduced in late 2025, Prompted Playlist initially launched for Premium users in New Zealand. The broader rollout signals that Spotify is continuing to test demand for AI-assisted playlist creation across a wider audience. As with earlier experiments in generative audio tools, the company appears to be iterating gradually rather than pushing a full global release at once.

The feature works by letting users describe what they want to hear. Prompts can reference moods, time periods, activities, genres, or even specific cultural touchpoints. For example, a user might request a nostalgia-driven mix of early 2000s British pop or ask to explore deeper cuts from an unfamiliar artist. Spotify’s system then combines that written input with listening history and behavioral data to assemble a new playlist.

Users are not locked into the first result. Prompts can be edited, refined, or restarted entirely, offering some flexibility in shaping the outcome. However, usage limits currently apply, reflecting the beta status of the feature. Spotify has indicated that these limits could evolve based on user feedback and performance data.

Prompt-based playlist generation reflects a broader shift in how streaming platforms are integrating AI into discovery tools. Instead of navigating menus or relying on static genre categories, listeners increasingly expect conversational interfaces that translate intent into results. Whether Prompted Playlist becomes a long-term fixture within Spotify’s core experience will likely depend on how consistently it delivers relevant and satisfying recommendations.

The feature remains exclusive to Spotify Premium subscribers, reinforcing the company’s strategy of reserving experimental tools for paid tiers. As expansion continues, additional regions may gain access depending on how the beta performs in its current markets.

For now, Prompted Playlist represents another step in Spotify’s ongoing attempt to personalize music discovery while reducing the friction involved in building new playlists from scratch.
