Spotify is facing a new glitch that’s leaving many Android users—particularly those on Samsung and Google Pixel phones—without music. Over the past two weeks, complaints have surged across Spotify’s community forums, with users reporting frequent app crashes and freezes that make the platform nearly unusable on certain devices.
According to user reports, the problem mostly occurs when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi. Switching to mobile data appears to bypass the issue, but connecting to any Wi-Fi network, even a different one, often triggers another crash. This pattern suggests the issue may be tied to Spotify’s network handling or a recent app update rather than specific devices or routers.
Spotify has acknowledged the bug and said its team is investigating, though the company hasn’t offered a timeline for a fix. For now, Android users affected by the crashes are being left to troubleshoot on their own. Some users have found temporary relief by uninstalling and reinstalling the app, though that workaround rarely solves the problem entirely. Others recommend using mobile data or downgrading to an older version of Spotify until the company issues an update.
There’s also speculation that Wi-Fi–connected speakers may be contributing to the instability. Disabling these devices, reconnecting to Wi-Fi, and restarting the app have reportedly helped a few users, but results vary. Those relying on Spotify for daily listening may find themselves switching to competing services like YouTube Music, Apple Music, or Tidal until the issue is resolved.
This isn’t the first time Android users have encountered major playback bugs with Spotify. A similar incident in mid-2024 caused Pixel devices to crash when launching the app or playing a song, frustrating premium subscribers who rely on Spotify for commuting or workouts. While the current issue doesn’t appear to be as widespread, it highlights how fragile the streaming experience can become when platform updates collide with Android’s complex ecosystem of devices, networks, and background services.
Until Spotify rolls out a stable patch, Android users may have to make do with limited workarounds—or a temporary change in music habits.
