Sony Middle East and Africa is introducing the first UAE edition of Alpha Femme, a female-led creative program aimed at supporting women working in photography, videography, cinematography, and digital content creation. The initiative arrives in Dubai at a time when the region’s creator economy is expanding, but where structured, community-focused platforms for women remain limited. Rather than positioning itself as a showcase, Alpha Femme is framed as a space for practical learning, peer exchange, and longer-term professional development.
The UAE launch follows earlier iterations of Alpha Femme in Kuwait, South Africa, Egypt, and Kazakhstan, where the program has focused on building local creative networks rather than one-off promotional events. In the UAE, the initiative will officially begin with a launch gathering on January 17 at Blue Doors by Delano on Bluewaters Island. The event will include a panel discussion featuring female creators active across different visual disciplines, addressing how creative work intersects with strategy, platform dynamics, and commercial sustainability in today’s content-driven environment.
At its core, Alpha Femme is positioned as a response to the changing realities of visual storytelling. Social platforms, brand partnerships, and direct-to-audience models have reshaped how creative careers are built, often requiring creators to balance artistic intent with business considerations. The discussions planned for the launch aim to reflect those realities, focusing less on aspiration and more on the practical decisions involved in sustaining a creative practice.
According to Jobin Joejoe, Managing Director of Sony Middle East and Africa, the initiative is intended to provide access to shared knowledge and resources rather than simply highlighting individual success stories. His remarks point to a broader effort by Sony to remain relevant within the regional creator ecosystem, particularly as imaging tools become more accessible and competition among platforms and manufacturers increases.
Beyond the launch event, the UAE edition of Alpha Femme will continue through a series of monthly workshops. These sessions are designed to accommodate a range of experience levels, from emerging photographers to established professionals, and will include hands-on training, technical guidance, and discussions led by industry speakers and Sony ambassadors. The first workshop, scheduled for January 25 at Garage Studio, will focus on fine art photography and is open to registered participants.
While the initiative is supported by Sony’s digital imaging ecosystem, its long-term value will depend on whether it can foster sustained collaboration and skills development rather than functioning as a short-term brand-led program. For women navigating the region’s creative industries, Alpha Femme presents an opportunity to connect with peers and gain practical insight into an evolving field where visibility and viability do not always align.
