Sonos and Philips Hue are teaming up to bring tighter integration between sound, lighting, and voice control. Starting in September, users will be able to control Philips Hue smart lights directly through Sonos Voice Control, the on-device assistant built into Sonos speakers.
The update means owners of mic-enabled Sonos devices can issue voice commands to switch Hue lights on or off, adjust brightness and color temperature, activate preset scenes, or even manage connected smart plugs. The feature has been one of the most requested additions from Sonos users, reflecting the growing overlap between audio systems and smart home lighting.
What sets the integration apart is its approach to privacy. Unlike cloud-based voice assistants, Sonos Voice Control processes commands locally on the speaker itself, without recordings or internet transmission. That allows for faster response times while avoiding data sharing with remote servers — a key selling point for users wary of always-listening devices.

The rollout will begin globally in September, with support for US English and French at launch. Availability will extend to most markets except China.
For both companies, the partnership highlights a broader trend toward seamless, multi-device smart home ecosystems. By combining Philips Hue’s lighting system with Sonos’ sound platform, the integration aims to make it easier for users to create coordinated atmospheres — whether for entertainment, relaxation, or everyday routines.
Nathan Hart, Senior Product Manager at Sonos, framed the move as a natural extension of the company’s goals: “By bringing [Sonos Voice Control] together with Philips Hue, we’re making it just as easy to transform lighting as it is to control music — helping users create rich, connected experiences across their home.”
