Snap is putting a price tag on nostalgia. The company just announced Memories Storage Plans, a new subscription option for users who max out the default 5GB of free storage for their saved Snaps. Since its launch in 2016, Memories has grown into a massive archive—Snap says users have collectively stored more than one trillion Snaps.
The new paid tiers start with an introductory plan offering 100GB of storage for $1.99 per month. Snapchat+ subscribers, who already pay $3.99 monthly, will see their cap raised to 250GB. At the high end, Platinum subscribers ($15.99 per month) get a whopping 5TB of storage—enough for even the most obsessive Snap hoarders.
For most users, nothing changes. Snap says the majority won’t get anywhere close to the 5GB free limit. But for those with years of Snaps clogging their Memories, the company is rolling out a transition plan: anyone currently over 5GB will receive a year of temporary storage to adjust before being asked to pay.
The move comes as Snap continues to test ways to monetize beyond ads, adding these new storage subscriptions alongside its Lens+ subscription for advanced AR effects.
