Six Anker power banks recalled over potential battery-cell fault

Anker has issued a voluntary global recall of six of its portable power banks after an enhanced quality-control review uncovered a potential manufacturing defect in the lithium-ion cells supplied by a single vendor. Although the company emphasizes that the risk of malfunction is minimal, it opted to remove these units from circulation out of an abundance of caution and to uphold its reputation for reliability in battery safety.

This marks Anker’s second major power-bank recall in 2025 and the fourth over the past two years, underscoring the challenges of maintaining rigorous component-level audits across high-volume production lines. The recall affects a diverse lineup of models, from compact 10,000 mAh units to higher-capacity 20,000 mAh packs, some of which include built-in USB-C or Lightning cables for added convenience. Specifically, the models included are A1257 (10 K, 22.5 W), A1647 (20 K, 22.5 W, built-in USB-C), A1652 MagGo (10 K, 7.5 W), A1681 Zolo (20 K, 30 W, USB-C and Lightning cables), and A1689 Zolo (20 K, 30 W, USB-C).

Owners of any impacted Anker power bank can visit the company’s support website to verify their model number and initiate the recall process. Once a claim is validated, Anker will offer either a replacement unit or a gift card equivalent to the purchase price. This customer-friendly approach aims to minimize disruption while addressing the battery-cell issue before any incidents occur.

While voluntary recalls can inconvenience users, they also demonstrate a manufacturer’s commitment to product safety and transparency. In recent years, incidents involving overheating lithium-ion batteries in third-party power banks have prompted tighter oversight across the portable-battery industry. By expanding its supplier testing and expanding audits at the component level, Anker hopes to prevent similar issues in future production cycles.

If you rely on an Anker power bank for travel, remote work, or emergency backup, it’s prudent to check your unit’s model number against the recall list and take advantage of the replacement or refund offer. Staying informed about battery-related recalls and registering devices when prompted by manufacturers can help you avoid unexpected failures and ensure that your portable charging solution remains safe and dependable.
