The best thing about Bluetooth is how it magically works across all devices… unless you’re an iPhone user and Samsung has something to say about it. Turns out, the new Galaxy Ring is about as “platform agnostic” as the guest list at a fancy members-only club.
In a genius move (insert eye roll here), Samsung VP Hon Pak confirmed the Galaxy Ring won’t play nice with iPhones. The reasoning? “We recognize the iOS/Android challenge, and we ultimately hope our devices are of such caliber that people will be willing to switch.” Yeah, because buying a whole new phone to use a ring totally makes sense. Maybe that’ll be their next marketing campaign.
To be fair, Samsung gets a little credit for “working to ensure compatibility” with those lesser Android devices. So, there’s that.
And let’s be honest, since ditching Tizen for Wear OS, Samsung’s smartwatches have been about as friendly towards iPhones as a cat is to a bath. But hey, Apple’s been locking people into their ecosystem for years with their AirPods and Apple Watches. Guess Samsung finally decided, “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” in the battle for walled-garden supremacy.
