Samsung refreshes its portable projector lineup with the Freestyle+

Samsung has announced the Freestyle+, an updated version of its portable projector lineup, ahead of CES 2026. As with earlier Freestyle models, the emphasis is on flexibility and ease of use rather than raw brightness or home theater–grade performance. The Freestyle+ is clearly designed for casual viewing in controlled lighting rather than for replacing a traditional living room projector.

The new model delivers a peak brightness of 430 ISO lumens. While that number remains modest by projector standards and limits usability in rooms with significant ambient light, it does represent a noticeable improvement over the previous generation. In practical terms, the Freestyle+ should perform adequately in dark or dim environments, such as bedrooms or nighttime outdoor setups, but daytime viewing without blackout conditions will remain a challenge.

Samsung continues to lean heavily on the Freestyle’s distinctive hardware design. The Freestyle+ features a 180-degree rotating body that allows projection onto walls, ceilings, and even floors without the need for tripods or mounting accessories. This design remains one of the product’s defining traits, making it easy to reposition the image on the fly without physically moving the projector base.

Audio is handled by a built-in 360-degree speaker, which Samsung says has been tuned for fuller sound within the compact enclosure. While integrated speakers are rarely a substitute for external audio systems, Samsung has included support for Q-Symphony, allowing the projector to sync with compatible Samsung soundbars. When used together, the projector and soundbar can output audio simultaneously, creating a more layered sound profile than either device could provide on its own.

On the software and processing side, the Freestyle+ introduces several automated image adjustment features aimed at reducing setup friction. 3D Auto Keystone corrects image distortion when projecting onto uneven or angled surfaces, while Real-time Focus continuously adjusts sharpness as the projector is rotated or moved. Screen Fit automatically resizes the image when a projection screen is detected, and Wall Calibration attempts to compensate for wall colors or surface patterns to reduce visual inconsistencies.

These features collectively reinforce Samsung’s strategy of making the Freestyle+ as close to “set it anywhere and press play” as possible. Rather than expecting users to fine-tune settings manually, the projector relies on real-time corrections to maintain a usable image in less-than-ideal conditions.

Samsung has confirmed that the Freestyle+ will launch in the first half of 2026 and will be showcased at its CES exhibition space. Pricing has not yet been announced. Based on the positioning and feature set, the Freestyle+ appears to be an incremental update rather than a major rethink, aimed at improving brightness and automation while keeping the same portability-first philosophy that defined the original.
