Samsung partners with Emirates International School to launch AI lab in UAE

Samsung has partnered with Emirates International School Meadows in Dubai, designating it as the second Samsung Certified School in the UAE through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement focuses on integrating AI tools and digital skills into the school’s environment, equipping 17 educators and around 200 students with access to dedicated hardware and training programs.

A Samsung AI Lab has been set up on campus, stocked with various devices intended to support hands-on work in coding, machine learning, creative design, and related areas. Students can also join a Samsung Student Ambassador initiative, which aims to build leadership in digital projects within the school and beyond. Teachers are receiving specialized training to incorporate these technologies more effectively into everyday lessons across the IB curriculum, rather than treating them as isolated activities.

The partnership aligns with the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, a national framework pushing for broader AI adoption across sectors, including education. Samsung positions this as part of its global Certified Schools network, emphasizing preparation for an AI-influenced future. Jerome Hong, President of Samsung Gulf Electronics, highlighted the role of education in fostering innovation and skills for digital transformation. Ian Ward, Principal at Emirates International School Meadows, described the lab as a core enhancement to teaching and learning, helping students tackle real-world problems with critical thinking.

This development comes amid a wider push by tech companies to embed their ecosystems into educational settings. Similar programs have appeared in other markets, often blending hardware provision with curriculum support and teacher credentials. In the UAE context, where schools already navigate ambitious national tech strategies, the initiative offers tangible resources but also raises familiar questions about long-term integration. How deeply will these tools reshape pedagogy versus simply adding another layer of devices? Success will likely depend on execution beyond the initial setup—measuring actual learning outcomes rather than just equipment deployment.

From a practical standpoint, the lab setup and ambassador program provide structured exposure to current AI features, which could benefit students exploring tech-driven careers. The educator training component stands out as particularly relevant, addressing a common gap where new tools arrive without sufficient guidance for staff. Yet partnerships like this inevitably carry commercial undertones. Schools gain modern resources, while the company expands its footprint and influence among younger users and their families. Balancing educational value with brand objectives remains an ongoing challenge in such collaborations.

Overall, the MoU with Emirates International School Meadows represents a incremental step in embedding AI-focused resources into UAE private education. It builds on existing national priorities without claiming to reinvent the classroom overnight. For educators and parents observing these developments, the real test will lie in how effectively the program translates into measurable skill gains and thoughtful technology use, rather than novelty alone. As more institutions join similar networks, tracking results across the Certified Schools program could offer clearer insights into what works in real educational environments.
