Samsung has officially begun rolling out the stable One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S25 series, marking the first major expansion of its latest software beyond foldables. The update, based on Android 16, is currently available to users in South Korea, with a wider global rollout expected soon for the US, UK, India, and other regions.
The first stable release comes in at around 3.8GB, with build numbers S938NKSU5BYI3 / S938NOKR5BYI3 / S938NKSU5BYI3 depending on the region. It also includes the September 1, 2025 security patch, further aligning Samsung’s flagship line with Google’s most recent Android protections.
What’s new in One UI 8
One UI 8 brings several new features over One UI 7. Among the highlights:
- Automatic call captioning – real-time captions for phone calls, improving accessibility and usability in noisy environments.
- Now Brief – Samsung’s new contextual briefing feature, which delivers at-a-glance information and proactive suggestions.
- Improved multitasking, design refinements, and tighter integration with Samsung’s ecosystem, including Galaxy AI-powered tools.
These additions follow months of beta testing that began shortly after the Galaxy S25 launch, with feedback from early adopters helping refine the final release.
Broader rollout plans
Up until now, stable One UI 8 had been limited to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE, leaving Galaxy S25 owners in the unusual position of having to wait for the update despite owning Samsung’s mainstream flagship. With this rollout, the S25 series is finally getting the same treatment as Samsung’s newest foldables.
Samsung hasn’t yet provided a full schedule of which devices will receive One UI 8 during September, but the company has confirmed that One UI 8 Watch will also begin expanding beyond the Galaxy Watch 8 lineup later this year.
The S25 series rollout is a key milestone for Samsung, showing that its update strategy continues to prioritize both foldables and bar-style flagships. With Android 16 as the base, One UI 8 gives Samsung more room to refine its AI features and ecosystem integrations — something the company has been leaning into heavily across devices.
For Galaxy S25 owners outside South Korea, it’s likely just a matter of weeks before the update arrives. As usual, availability will depend on carrier and region, but the global rollout should follow quickly given Samsung’s recent track record with major updates.
