Ring rolls out Smart Video Search feature for users in the UAE

Ring has introduced Smart Video Search in the United Arab Emirates, expanding the availability of an AI-based feature designed to make reviewing recorded footage less time-consuming. The update allows users to search their Ring Event History using text-based queries, rather than manually scrolling through recorded clips in the app.

The feature is now rolling out to customers in the UAE who are subscribed to the Ring Home Premium plan. It is intended to address a common pain point for users of home security cameras and video doorbells: locating a specific moment among dozens, or even hundreds, of short recordings generated throughout the day. Instead of browsing footage chronologically, users can type queries such as when a package arrived or when someone returned home, and the system surfaces relevant clips that match the request.

Smart Video Search is powered by Ring IQ, which combines the company’s in-house development with AI-based visual analysis. The system relies on visual language modeling to associate text prompts with elements detected in video footage. In practice, this means users can search for everyday events related to people, pets, or routine household activity, provided those events are captured by Ring cameras or doorbells. While Ring positions this as one of its more advanced AI tools, the functionality aligns with a broader industry trend toward searchable video archives in consumer security products.

The introduction of Smart Video Search in the UAE reflects the region’s growing adoption of connected home technology. As smart cameras become more common, the volume of recorded footage increases, making efficient navigation more important than raw storage capacity. Features like searchable video aim to make these systems more practical for daily use, particularly for households managing multiple cameras across indoor and outdoor spaces.

According to Ring, the feature is compatible with all of its current video doorbells and cameras. However, access is limited to customers on the Ring Home Premium subscription tier, which is priced at $20 per month or $200 per year. As the feature is currently in public beta, its performance and scope may continue to evolve based on user feedback and regional requirements.

Ring operates as a subsidiary of Amazon, and its product roadmap increasingly reflects Amazon’s broader focus on AI-driven consumer services. While Smart Video Search does not change how footage is captured, it shifts emphasis toward how recorded data is organized and accessed, which may become a key differentiator as smart home ecosystems mature.

The launch in the UAE also highlights how global smart home features are being localized and introduced beyond North American and European markets. As users in markets such as United Arab Emirates continue to adopt connected devices, tools that reduce friction and improve usability are likely to play a larger role in long-term engagement with these platforms.
