Remarkable shrinks its digital notepad with the new Paper Pro Move

A year after launching its 11.8-inch Paper Pro tablet, Remarkable is introducing a smaller and more portable option. The new Paper Pro Move is a compact digital notepad with a 7.3-inch color E Ink display, designed to slip into a pocket or bag while retaining much of the writing space found on the larger model. Remarkable positions it as a productivity device for note-taking rather than a general-purpose e-reader.

At 7.7 inches tall and 4.24 inches wide, the Paper Pro Move is roughly the height of the iPad Mini but an inch narrower, making it feel closer in size to a slim paperback. It weighs less than half as much as the original Paper Pro and carries the same 64GB of internal storage, though it runs on a slower 1.7GHz dual-core Cortex-A55 processor and uses a smaller 2,334mAh battery. Remarkable claims this provides up to two weeks of use on a single charge.

The Move continues to use E Ink’s Gallery 3 technology, which mixes four ink particle colors for more accurate reproduction than the filter-based Kaleido screens found in most e-readers from Amazon or Kobo. While this approach allows for richer colors, it also means slower refresh rates, which can affect fluidity when flipping pages or navigating menus.

The device is being sold for $449, bundled with Remarkable’s standard Marker stylus, which charges magnetically when attached. A $499 version includes the Marker Plus stylus that features an eraser function. Protective folio cases are also available separately in various finishes. For comparison, the larger Paper Pro remains on sale at $629.

Like Remarkable’s other products, the Paper Pro Move is not built as a dedicated e-reader. It lacks access to digital bookstores and offers only limited support for ePub and PDF files. Instead, it focuses on digital handwriting with a library of templates ranging from planners to lined pages. Notes can be converted to text for email, annotations can be added to documents, and handwriting can be searched—though some of these features are gated behind a subscription.

Remarkable is tying more of its software functions to its Connect service, which costs $2.99 per month after a 100-day trial. Basic note-taking, handwriting conversion, and syncing with the mobile app are included, but features such as searching handwritten notes, editing within the mobile app, and integrations like Slack are reserved for paying subscribers.

The Paper Pro Move reflects Remarkable’s ongoing attempt to carve out space between tablets and e-readers by offering a distraction-free device focused on writing. The smaller size makes it more portable, but the pricing—nearly three-quarters the cost of the larger model—suggests that convenience comes at a premium.
