Google Maps is updating its iPhone app with a redesigned bottom bar, similar to the one recently introduced for Android. The update streamlines the bottom bar by reducing the number of tabs from five to three. The “Explore,” “You,” and “Contribute” tabs remain, while the “Go” tab has been removed but can still be accessed through the “Saved trips” list within the new “You” tab.

The “You” tab has been enhanced to include “Notifications” and “Messages,” previously found in the now-removed “Updates” tab. This consolidation simplifies navigation and provides easier access to important information. Additionally, the search bar has been removed from the “You” tab, streamlining the interface and focusing on essential features.
Overall, the new bottom bar design looks cleaner and less cluttered, improving the overall user experience. This change is available in Google Maps for iOS version 6.129.1 and seems to be a server-side update. If you have the app open, close it completely and reopen it to see the changes.
